Drifted Home
This driftwood sculpture, assembled from pieces gathered along the shores of Goleta and Santa Cruz, depicts a forest creature with its heart and organs exposed. Its chest bears a burned, hollow core, while one arm reaches outward — searching for a new heart. Formed from the remnants of once-living trees, the creature becomes both victim and witness to environmental loss. The work symbolizes the destruction of forests and ecosystems through human impact. Drifted Home transforms weathered fragments of driftwood into a haunting embodiment of resilience, grief, and the earth’s enduring plea for renewal — a reflection on how even in death, the forest finds its way back to the sea.
